Step 1. Installation and setup on the phone: Karing app for iOS 15
If you have an iPhone, follow the instructions below. If you have an Android, please contact our support at support@papervpn.io.
Install the Karing on your iPhone. Without it you can’t set up the VPN on your Apple TV set-top box.
Begin setting up the connection on your phone. To do this, open the Karing app on your phone.
Tap Accept & Continue.
Select the English and tap Next.
Select your country and tap Next.
With templates for personal rules don’t change anything and just tap Next.
Leave the Novice Mode enabled and tap Done.
Copy the access key from your account. Open the "Subscriptions". Tap "Primary Key" — it starts with https://. Click on the key — it will be copied.
If you have done everything correctly, the link and note will be automatically inserted. Tap the checkmark in the top right corner.
A notification will appear that the subscription has been successfully added — close it.
You will return to the "Add Profile".
Tap the arrow in the top left corner to exit.
Tap the red button with the shield icon to activate the VPN and allow the configuration to be added.
The shield button will turn green if you have done everything correctly. This means the VPN is active.
Tap the Apple TV button in the bottom menu. The Karing app will request camera access — allow it. This access is needed to scan the code from the TV screen (where Apple TV is set up) and link the devices.
Step 2. Installation and setup on Apple TV: Karing app for tvOS 17 and newer
Install Karing on Apple TV: open the App Store on your TV, find the app in the search, and tap Get.
Begin setting up the connection on the set-top box. To do this, open the Karing app on your TV. Tap Accept & Continue.
A QR code will appear on the screen. Scan it using the Karing app on your iPhone. To do this, open the app on your phone, go to the Scan QR Code, allow camera access, and read the QR from the TV.
A confirmation will appear on your phone — tap the button, as shown in the picture below, to set up the VPN on the set-top box.
Check if the VPN is working on Apple TV. This is usually visible by the connection status in the Karing app. Check whether the necessary resources open.
If you have an older version of iOS on your phone or tvOS on your set-top box, update your operating system or try using other devices.

Happ App for tvOS 17 and iOS 15 and newer
Step 1. Installation and setup on the phone: Happ app for iOS 15 or Android
Step 2. Installation and setup on Apple TV: Happ app for tvOS 17 and newer
Install Happ on Apple TV: open the App Store on your TV, find the app in the search, and tap Get.
Begin setting up the connection on the set-top box. To do this, open the Happ app on your TV. A QR code will appear on the screen.
Scan the QR code using the Happ app on your phone. To do this, open the app on your phone, and click the + icon in the top right corner.
The app will request camera access — allow it. Then read the QR code from the TV.
Your phone will show a request to allow finding devices on the local network — click "Allow."
On your phone check the box next to Paper VPN and tap "Send."
Return to the TV — the connection profile will appear on its screen. Tap the large button on the right to turn on the VPN — and to turn off.
Before the first connection, the app will ask for permission to add a VPN configuration. Click "Allow" and connect to the VPN.
Also we recommend setting up automatic key updates for VPN access — this will happen every time you open the app. It will be useful for changing the server or location.
How to Set Up Automatic Key Updates
Open the Happ app on Apple TV and click the gear icon (⚙️) in the top left corner. This will take you to the Settings.
Select the Subscriptions.
Turn on "Update on open."
Now, the VPN access key will automatically update every time you launch the Happ app.
If you can’t do it, here is an alternative way:
1. Disconnect the VPN in the Happ app; 2. Change the server or location in your account; 3. Reopen Happ and click the connect button.
